Pre-requisites, First steps

All candidates must fulfill these baseline requirements:

  • EASA Medical Certificate: A Class 1 (CPL/ATPL) or Class 2 (PPL) certificate issued by an Aero-Medical Center (AeMC) in your chosen EASA Member State. We will redirect you to Swiss AeMC to make your appointment.

  • Language Proficiency: Minimum ICAO Level 4 English proficiency to be taken at our Language assessment center online - taking a 45min online consultation meeting with one of our language assessors

  • License Verification: Authenticity verification from your State of License Issue (SOLI) to the receiving EASA National Aviation Authority (NAA).

Commercial Pilot License (CPL) conversion.

Professional conversion usually involves "freezing" an ATPL to meet airline entry standards.

  1. Theory: Pass all ATPL subjects via our modular ground school with self-study CBT and exam question database access.

  2. Typical minimum experience: Minimum 200 hours total time, including 100 hours PIC and a 300 NM qualifying cross-country trip. (refer to actual FOCA License skill test application form for accurate and updated information)

  3. Training: Complete a bespoke conversion course at our EASA Approved Training Organization (ATO), typically 5–15 flight hours.

  4. Skill Test: Pass the two CPL Skill Tests on our complex aircraft Tecnam P2006T for your CPL on Multi Engine and IR ratings.

Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)

For experienced multi-pilot aircraft (MPA) captains and first officers.

  • Experience: Minimum 1,500 hours total time, including 500 hours on MPA.

  • Requirements: Pass all ATPL theory exams and an ATPL Skill Test in the appropriate Full flight simulator. Your ATPL and your type rating on your ICAO license must be valid and current.

Recommended Action Plan

  1. Select Swiss FOCA as your competent CAA: Choose your state of record carefully; moving medical files later is complex.

  2. Secure Medical: Obtain your EASA medical before investing in training.

  3. Audit Logbooks: Have our EASA ATO perform a pre-entry assessment to determine your exact flight training needs.

  4. Begin Theory: Enroll in our distance-learning ATPL course early, as exam self-study ATPL theory studies typically take 2-6 months to complete up to proficiency and awaiting the suitable Theory examination date at EASA CAA in Europe.
