A320 Type Rating course structure | Training phases | Program

The A320 type rating normally consists of four phases, which make you reach the required level of knowledge, pilot skills and personal attitude to operate safely as an airline crewmember on one of the Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Theory, Theoretical knowledge training and exam

The training course at Jetline Training encompasses LMS, computer based training (CBT), self-study phases followed and accompained by Online Mentoring lectures, online classroom sessions and group excercises. Jetline is proud to use state of the art Virtual Reality training Devices, Training excercises pre-recorded in a dedicated video database accessible for all Jetline students.

The Theory training lasts for 2-4 weeks (depending on students availability) and encompasses more than 100 hours of training  online and in person as face-to-face tuitition.

The Theoretical knowledge instruction is completed with a Theory exam.

Simulator Training

Elevate your pilot skills with our A320 type rating program, featuring at least 77 hours of training time. Spread over 11 sessions within 14-16 days at the sim center location, this program phase ensures you gain the necessary skills and attitude to operate the A320 aircraft effectively.

The simulator training phase is concluded with the final license skill test (LST), CAA examination performed by one of our Type rating examiners (SFE or TRE). Only with the passed sim check ride the student pilot may proceed to the base training / landing training on the real A320 family aircraft.

Note for EASA license holders: Theory phase and simulator phase shall not last longer than 6 months (EASA FCL regulation)

Base training,
landing training

Each student must complete the landing training within 6 months of the passed final LST check session. JETLINE Training's Airline Academy is the sole provider globally to guarantee Landing Training or Base Training within 1 month of passed License Skill Test.

The base training consists of 6 landings plus 1 go around on the real A320 family aircraft.

Note for EASA FCL holders: in case of student pilots having logged more than 500h on CS-25 certified aircraft the number of landings may be reduced to four.

Airline Basic Qualification (BQ)

Our Airline Basic Qualification (BQ) service offers comprehensive preparation for aspiring airline pilots and especially first fofficers, including airline assessment preparation, psychometric testing preparation, and interview training. Additionally, we include in some of our training packages CV and cover letter training, simulator assessment preparation, A320 technical refreshers with question bank access, and a sim check after one year to ensure you stay ahead of your competitors while we ensure that you can apply to recruiting airlines from Jetline Training.

One A320 type rating to fly
9 aircraft variants

The Airbus A320 Family Fleet offers type rating commonality, allowing you to operate as a crewmember on nine different single-aisle aircraft, for short-haul to ultra-long-range flights globally. The cockpit of the A320 Family shares similarities with other Airbus models. A single Type Rating enables pilots to operate the A318, A319, A320, and A321, and they can seamlessly transition to Airbus widebody fly-by-wire through Cross Crew Qualification, enhancing versatility in their assignments and providing airlines with greater flexibility in crew deployment. As of 2026, the A320 Family has an order backlog of 18,000 aircraft, making it the best-selling commercial aircraft in the world. In 2026 alone, European airline customers placed orders for over 1,800 A320 aircraft, with production of more than 60 A320 aircraft per month!
